The Kitchen Table - the place where I connect with my passion, my work, and my community.
All amongst the calm and the chaos of family life.
It's messy, it's imperfect and it's the daily realities of meeting my needs alongside my family.
Enjoy weekly stories, musings and anedotes of raising kids in emotionally attuned ways.

What a week it’s been. Although I feel like I could start every email to you like this.
The ups and downs of life at home, primarily spent with our two boys is full to the brim with it all.
We’ve navigated boredom (on steroids it seems), raging outbursts, name calling and fighting between brothers, a longer than usual menstrual cycle resulting in longer than usual premenstrual emotions. And of course sprinkled in have been moments of joy, glimmers, movement and cup filling connection with friends and family.
But it does seem that when we’re in periods of overwhelm or it just seems that life is serving up a bit more than we can handle, we tend to focus on those things more. Do you agree?
So if any of this is resonating and you are sensing some things in your home life feeling big and full, I really want you to know I see you.
I wonder what you have been doing to nourish yourself? Or if I could ask you that question to ponder…. what are some things you could do, in your days and week that would help ease some of the overwhelm. These will be unique to you. They might be completely different to your friend or sister.
I thought to share some of my well known tools and ways I build my capacity to hold more for those around me.
Movement, its happening, the rewiring in my brain means that I am now someone who moves my body everyday! I am so bloody proud of me, honestly I never thought this was somewhere I would get to. I will get up to my alarm from the intrinsic motivation that movement has gifted me. It didn’t happen overnight, but overtime. So if this is something you crave, I encourage you to keep going. You really are worth it.
Nature, I’m working on this. The weather gets me some days and anyone living in our area or similar climate might empathise. I am ready for a consistent dose of sunshine and warmth to get us outside and into the elements more often. I know the weather is not an excuse and we can still access it, but it impacts me for sure. A friend recently reminded me of some simple ways to bring in a grounding practice and I have done this a few times, making up a quick scavenger hunt and taking the boys on our walk up the back road.
Screens and technology, with no guilt. The boys watching a show or two whilst I get some time for me is a reality that I am willing to sink into. It hasn’t always been this way, and I’ve picked up the stick (metaphorically) to hit myself with too many times in the past, trying to uphold screen free days and long periods, where honestly no one wins. So I choose to put that stick down now and see how it supports us all.
Listening spaces, where I can express and share my voice. This has become such an invaluable tool for me now. I have felt the benefits and ripple effects into my life and family and have zero reservations about paying for this type of support. Perhaps in the beginning there was hesitation, questioning around the benefits and money spent, but it’s a part of my overall wellbeing now and an investment in myself, my family and those I am in relationship with.
Structure - this feels unique to me (but of course it may resonate for you to). Our little family is in a season of uncertainly, there’s a potential move on the horizon for us which means we’re navigating the liminal space and uncertainty of when it will all happen.
(I mean hello life! It’s all uncertain I know, but this is proving to be quite a challenge for my planner personality type). So structure and planning have become a non-negotiable and I’m still working on this, but basically it’s been really helpful for my nervous system, and then in turn the boys and the whole family!
There are other ways I tend to my self and my needs throughout the fullness of being alongside the boys as much as I am, mostly they ebb and flow. Sometimes I need gentle reminders, but I’m getting better at attuning to myself and my internal states and reaching for the tools that I know work.
If you need a little help exploring the ways in which you feel most supported and nourished, and then in turn your children and whole family, then I’d love to connect.

What an honour it is to hold space and sit alongside other mothers.
I had the absolute privilege to gather last night with a beautiful group of mammas and it was all kinds of magic. What I knew I deeply desired but has taken a lot of work internally to bring to life.
I feel I have put off doing the hard thing for a while and I really felt this in the lead up to the online circle.
But I have a renewed surge of energy, which often comes from being in space with other souls walking a similar path.
I am offering for a limited time a One off RESET session for $75 for an hour online together.
You can attend solo or with your partner. You can come with a particular issue, challenge or behaviour that you are wanting some support and listening in.
If there is something that’s taking up mental or emotional space in your mind and body, you don’t have to battle it alone.
Sometimes taking the step in getting support is the biggest most courageous step.
I can help support you to make manageable steps as small as we need, on the path to connected parenting.
Please reach out if you have any questions, or jump onto the link and book in a RESET.
I look forward to walking alongside you.
Much love, Emily x
