Done is better than perfection

The Kitchen Table - the place where I connect with my passion, my work, and my community.

All amongst the calm and the chaos of family life.

It's messy, it's imperfect and it's the daily realities of meeting my needs alongside my family.

Enjoy weekly stories, musings and anedotes of raising kids in emotionally attuned ways.

Hello there,

As I sit down this morning, sun on my face, boys currently engaged in drawing at the table.

It feels equal parts easeful and hard to get this email out to you.

I’ve been dancing with being in my life, holding space for myself alongside the boys, supporting my nervous system and doing the things that I know are essential to a base level of being able to do all of that.

AND carving out time for me to be with my creative energy, ideas that I want to action and offer out to the mums and families that follow my work.

And it’s hard, it’s a dance that I know well, as I’ve been on this path for a number of years now, but not one I find easy. The steps keep changing as the needs in a family are so dynamic and ever-changing.

Spending most of my time alongside the boys, full time parenting, homeschooling and making tiny pockets of time work for me to follow the passion and ways I want to show up and support others which in turn supports and nourishes me.

With all my good intentions to send an email more consistently, I am leaning into trusting the flow of energy and output as I dance between all the moving pieces in life right now.

We are in the liminal messy stage of change in our family unit.

It’s big energy where I’ve been swinging between overwhelm and calm. Much like the boys I’m being reminded that some days are hard, emotional and feel like a complete shit show, often the next day is completely different in my body and emotional state.

I am (slowly) actioning an idea that came through a few weeks ago which I know will be supportive to so many parents and families out there.

It’s going to be very simple, imperfect and a bit of a trial run which I hope to receive feedback for future development.

I am working on the mantra: “Done is better than perfect”.

So, it will be a series of short videos sent to your inbox, for you and your child to watch together and then do an activity following.

They will be simple and use everyday things in the home.

The will be playful and connecting, with the aim to invite creativity, fun, co-regulation as you do things together, side by side and most importantly creating connection.

You can adapt for yourself and your child and it’s not designed to add things to your already full plates, but to support you with some ideas and inspiration to carve out some time together.

I will act as your guide, helping you to guide your child.

If you have multiple children, you may like to do it more than once during the week, where you can best carve out some 1:1 time with each child.

If you would like to be a part of this free offering 'Play & Connect', please click below so I have your email when the first video is ready to send out.

And if you have been craving or feeling like some 1:1 support for a challenge or phase you are experiencing in your family, I’d love to invite you to book in for a free 15 minute Connection Call.

With love and connection,

Emily x
